The Veracity Challenge

writing

Thank you to Bhramori for tagging me to do this lovely challenge! It looks like a lot of fun, and I’m really excited to try it!

RULES:

  1. Write a paragraph without using a single adjective.
  2. Keep the link Veracity Challenge in your post (so that the creator of the challenge may receive a pingback).
  3.  Anyone can join the challenge, you don’t have to be nominated!
  4.  Nominate 6 Bloggers for this challenge.

This seems a bit difficult, but I might as well give it a shot!

I stare through the window and smile as the rain pours on outside. I like the world the most when it’s raining. The worms come out and squirm in glee on the sidewalks, and the plants eagerly take in the drops and rejoice as they grow even bigger than they ever believed they would. Where there is rain, there is life, and where there is life, there is hope. With that thought, I go to fetch my shoes. I step outside and am hit by a gust of wind. My smile widens as I walk out into the rain, allowing the water to drip on my face and down my clothes. As I get slowly soaked, I breathe in the perseverance all around me. The ants scurrying to a shelter and trying their hardest not to drown. The birds perched in the cover of the trees, still singing. The bunny rounding up her children and keeping them safe from the storm. If they can do it, so can I. And that’s when I let everything go and just listened to the sound of my heart. Beating steadily. And, to this day, I can’t remember a moment where I was more alive than that.

I hope you enjoyed that! Knowing me, I probably have an adjective or two in there, but at least I tried.

Well, now for the nominees:

  1. Sripurna
  2. Avid Reader
  3. thewritinghufflepuff
  4. Erika
  5. hashtaglovebooks
  6. wanderinginks

Remember that even if I didn’t tag you, you can still do this post! Be sure to link your post in the comments if you do decide to do it. Well, au revoir for now!

I Am More Happy Than Not Tag

Processed with VSCOcam with hb2 preset

I have been tagged by the lovely Erika in Bookventureland! Thank you so much Erika for the tag!

The “I Am More Happy Than Not” Tag was created by Shelumiel @ BookishAndAwesome in response to the “What makes you #MoreHappyThanNot?” question, inspired by Adam Silvera’s upcoming debut novel, More Happy Than Not. Basically, all you have to do is write about the things that make you more happy than not! Sounds pretty simple, right?

Well, there are only two simple rules in this tag, which are:

1.) Answer the question in whatever form you want, be it narrative or list form.

2.) Link the blogger who tagged you (or the original creator of the tag) in your post.

Now that we got that over with, let’s move on to the post!

books

When I read a novel in one sitting, I am more happy than not.

autumn

When I buy and eat maple-flavored food, I am more happy than not. (Seriously, Canada is like heaven to me.)

snow

It doesn’t snow often in Texas, so on the occasions that it does, I am more happy than not.

chris evans

Sometimes, I buy tickets to see Chris Evans on the big screen (like when I went to see Captain America 2), and when I first glimpse his beautiful face I am more happy than not.

roller coaster

When I try new things, even when it makes me feel so scared that I could barf, knowing that I am living my life to the fullest keeps me more happy than not.

laughing

Occasionally, for no random reason, I begin to laugh about the silliest of things, and during those moments of pure bliss I am more happy than not.

boooks

When I get a book hangover from an amazing novel, although I am dying on the inside, reliving the absolute perfection of the book makes me more happy than not.

movies

Finding a new favorite movie definitely keeps me more happy than not (the Minority Report, anyone?).

kids laughing

Kids are very… difficult to deal with, and they require a lot of patience and energy, but when I see their bright smile and all the irritation and exhaustion fades away, I am more happy than not.

friends

At some points in my life I feel forgotten and hopeless, so whenever my friends remind me that they care, even if it’s with a small text, I am more happy than not.

rainbow

Even when I feel horrible, I remind myself that you must face the storm to see the rainbow, and I am more happy than not.

This tag was so much fun! Well, I guess it’s time to tag other bloggers. Drumroll, please….

1.) Sripurna: You’re amazing, and I would love to see you do this tag!

2.) The Writing Hufflepuff: You’re posts are so fun to read, and you also happen to come from my same Hogwarts House!

3.) thetasteofdeath: Thank you for supporting me so much! I thought you might enjoy this!

4.) Kim @ Tranquil Dreams: I love your blog, because it’s so fun and upbeat! Since your posts make me happy, I thought that you might enjoy the More Happy Than Not Tag!

5.) Bhramori: We have the same taste and opinion in books, so I thought that it would be fun to see how you would do this post!

I guess that’s it, guys! Remember that there’s always a reason to be optimistic and live your lives to the fullest! See you later!

Desert Island Book Tag

I was tagged to do this tag by the lovely Bhramori and Danielle, whose blogs are awesome! If you haven’t checked them out already, you should definitely do so! Anyways, without further ado, let’s move on to the actual tag!

1.) Water- A Book You Can Simply Not Live Without

The Fault in Our Stars

I know it’s a cliche, but I’m going to have to go with The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I love all of his books equally (I’m also going to be posted a review on his novel Paper Towns shortly), but if I had to pick my favorite, it would be TFIOS. I reread that book so many times, and whenever I feel like I need a good cry or something to think about, I skim the pages till I find a memorable quote. That novel is precious to me and always will be.

2.) Food: A Book That is a Close Second on Your Favorites List

Legend Series

I really don’t have a favorites list when it comes to books. I really can’t pick favorites, because all novels have aspects that are enjoyable and aspects that they could improve upon. However, if I had to pick, I would choose the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu. Marie Lu is an incredible writer, and I will basically read anything from her. I would even read her grocery lists if she gave them out.

3.) Shelter: A Book That Makes You Feel at Home and Safe

Shiver

I know this is going to be a weird answer, but I’m going to say Shiver by Maggie Steifvater. I distinctly remember sitting in the warmth of my room, snuggled under a thick blanket, reading the novel with the window wide open and the night slowly approaching. Even though that novel was less than great, the feelings of warmth and happiness are unfortunately stuck with it.

4.) Flare Gun: A Book You Would Recommend To Someone Who Doesn’t Read

Anna and the French Kiss

I would definitely recommend Anna and the French Kiss! This novel got me out of a reading stump and I have loved it ever since. It’s the perfect combo of love, fun, and comedy, allowing for an easy but enjoyable read. If you want to see my review for this, click here.

5.) Fire-Matches: Books That Warm Your Heart

let it snow

Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, and Lauren Myracle is a wonderful heart-warming novel about Christmas, family, and love, and it is by far my favorite season-themed book. If you want to check out my review for this, click here.

6.) Compass: Book That Directed You Towards Your Love of Reading

Spiderwick Chronicles

I’m pretty sure that that’s the Spiderwick Chronicles by Holly Black. That series comprised of probably my earliest favorite books. I loved them so much and tried so hard to get all my friends to read them, who ended up telling me they thought it was “gross”. And that’s the exact moment I realized that I needed new friends.

Well, I guess that’s it for me! Now, time for the nominations:

  • Sripurna
  • Analee @ Book Snacks
  • Fantasy Angel
  • Erika
  • thetasteofdeath
  • thewritinghufflepuff
  • to all the boys that exist in the fictional world
  • HusbandandHusband

Thank you for reading!

The Courtship Book Tag

I would like to thank Bhramori for tagging me! This book tag looked like a lot of fun, so I thought “why not”? I hope you enjoy reading this!

Phase 1 – Initial Attraction: A book that you bought because of the cover

the winners curse

When I saw the cover, I knew that I needed to buy this novel. The cover is one of the most beautiful covers I’ve ever seen, and I couldn’t stop gushing about it to my friends after I bought it. How can you not buy a book that looks like that? I finished this novel and will definitely be posting a book review for it soon!

Phase 2 – First Impressions: A book that you got because of the summary

the walled cityThe summary of this novel sucked me in like a whirlpool. I was hooked, and I desperately needed to read it. Thankfully, this novel was just as amazing as I expected it to be. If you want to see my book review for this, click here.

Phase 3 – Sweet Talk: A book with great writing

the fault in our stars

The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. Need I say more?

Phase 4 – First Date: A first book of a series which made you want to pursue the rest of the series

Legend   the young elites

Phase 5 – Late night phone calls: A book that kept you up all night long

fangirlI stayed up late to finish this book. And by late, I mean three o’clock in the morning. I couldn’t stop reading because the novel was so addicting. I felt like if I were to fall asleep, I would be betraying the book gods. Rainbow Rowell is one of my favorite authors, so I should have known that that was going to happen. If you want to read my book review for this novel, click here.

Phase 6 – Always on my mind: A book that you could not stop thinking about

the red queen      city of bones

I usually spend a lot of my time thinking about the books I read. However, these two books in particular have driven me insane while reading. Even weeks after finishing these books, I was left wondering about them.

Phase 7 – Getting Physical: A book in which you love the way it feels

Anna and the FRENCH KISSS

Physically (as in how the book feels to hold) and emotionally, I love Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. Sorry Bhramori for stealing your answer, but I really do love that novel. If you want to see my book review for it, click here.

Phase 8 – Meeting the Parents: A book in which you would recommend to your friends and family

girl onlineThis novel is sweet and light, definitely contrasting the majority of the novels I read. I feel like if my family and friends were to ask for a book, I would recommend this to them, since if you’re not a common reader you might need to start out lightly. This book is also about a blogger, which might help my loved ones understand what I do a bit better. However, this novel isn’t one of my favorites, and I had to somewhat force myself to keep reading. If you want to read my book review for it, click here.

Phase 9 – Thinking about the future: A book or series that you know you’ll re-read many times in the future

divergent trilogyhunger games trilogyThese are two trilogies that have really left a lasting impression on me. I’m sure that I’ll reread them to the point of memorizing the books, since I’ve already reread the Hunger Games trilogy a few times.

Phase 10- Who do you tag?

  • Fantasy Angel
  • Sripurna
  • If We Shadows Have Offended

Well, I guess that’s it! I’ll be posting a book review for the Winner’s Curse soon, and hopefully one for Crimson Bound as well, although I’m still reading that one. Until then, au revoir!

The Frozen Book Tag

I was tagged to do this post by the wonderful If We Shadows Have Offended, which is a blog that I absolutely love! You should definitely check her out if you haven’t already, because her posts are the highlight of my day. Anyways, onto the tag…

1. Elsa- find a book with a main character who didn’t realize how awesome they were till the end of the book.

let it gooo

Bella from Twilight was actually pretty awesome in the end…. ah, that never gets old. In the Walled City by Ryan Graudin, Mei Yee seemed like a very weak character to me. Throughout the novel, she seemed like the damsel in distress that doesn’t to anything to help herself. She seemed really wimpy compared to her tough sister Jin. However, when I finished the novel, I realized that Mei Yee had to go through a lot. She was beaten, raped, manhandled, and tortured, but she still got back up each time. There was a strength in her, but it was the quiet kind. The kind that helps you stay strong, helps you pretend like nothing’s wrong. After some thought, I ended up really liking her.

2. Anna- find a book that makes you feel good about yourself

anna

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell made me feel a lot better about myself.  I usually feel different and weird when I’m a fangirl, since I’m pouring my emotions out and am usually furious when something bad happens in a bookn while everyone around me looks at me like I’m insane. However, Cath’s quirky personality made me feel not so alone anymore, and I saw that you can be cool and still be sort of a nerd. I want to thank Rainbow Rowell for making a character that is such an amazing role model for people like me!

3. Hans- find a book that at first you thought you were in love with, but then you realized you hated

hans

When I was reading Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater, I thought it was amazing. I spent an entire day reading it and was so engrossed in it that I forgot to eat my lunch and dinner! I felt a sense of withdrawal when I finished it and somehow forced myself to not go buy the sequel just yet. Well, I’ll have to thank myself for that, since after some reflection, I realized that there wasn’t anything special about the book. In fact, the plot was only strong in the ending, and the majority of the novel had a lot of nothing going on.

4. Kristoff- find a book that was so intense when you were reading or done reading it you just wanted to be alone

kristoff

I’m going to have to take Runila’s answer, but Allegiant was one of the most intense books I have ever read. I sat in my room with the door locked reading it, and when I finished I was such a mess. I cried until my eyes were swollen and proceeded to sit in my bed with my laptop, watching trailers for the movie Divergent (which hadn’t come out yet) and whispering “it will never be the same”. I usually don’t express my emotions outwardly this much when it comes to a book, but Tris really grew on me.

5. Sven- find a book with a loyal/lovable pet character

sven

I loved June’s dog in the Legend series. It was always there waiting for her during her hardest times, and it loved her more than even Day did. I wish I had an animal as loyal as that, but my pet fish don’t even know I exist!

6. Olaf- find a book you like to read in the winter and the summer

olaf

I can the Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo any time! I love that novel, because it provides me a new outlook on my life each time that I read it. I tend to read it every other year, and although the plot is now ingrained in my mind, I gain something new each time I open it. Books like this aren’t confined by seasons.

7. Who do you tag???

I tag:

  • Sripurna
  • Bhramori
  • saracroethle
  • aditiyunal
  • Amy Wallin
  • Angelized 1st
  • swxftbooks
  • Tranquil Dreams

Well, I guess that’s it! I still have two or three book tags to post, along with a review for the wonderful novel The Red Queen, which I will post ASAP. Until then, see you later!

The Bookshelf Scavenger Tag

I was tagged to do this post by the wonderful Bhramori, whose blog I love to death! Check her out if you haven’t already for her fun book tags and relatable posts!

1. Find an author’s name or title with the letter ‘Z’ in it.

the great gatsby

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald! I’ll have to admit, this question took a lot of scrounging around my bookshelf.

2. Find a classic.

pride and prejudice

I have too many classics to count! However, since the question only calls for one classic, I’m going to have to choose Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, because that novel is my absolute favorite.

3. Find a book with a key on its cover

when you reach me

When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead has a key on the cover, although it isn’t the central object.

4. Find something on your bookshelf that’s not a book.

My bookshelf also has lip balm, a few rubber bands for my hair, a few pencils, pens, and highlighters, a small teddy bear, and a Hermoine Granger wand that I got from the Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.

5. Find the oldest book on your shelf.

the adventures of tom sawyer

The Adventures of Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain. I got it from a secondhand bookstore, and the pages are yellowed and frayed. However, I find old books to be the most appealing, because they have a cozy feel to them. Plus, it’s hard to forget about the aromatic scent they develop!

6. Find a book with a girl on the cover.

delirium

I have way too many of those to list them all out, so I’m just going to pick Delirium by Lauren Oliver. I thought that the book was really good as I was reading it. Now, in retrospect, I realize that the novel is filled with a lot of fluff and doesn’t have a solid enough plot to be interesting.

7. Find a book that has an animal on the cover

eragon

I’m going to say Eragon by Christopher Paolini. A dragon counts as an animal, right?

8. Find a book with a male protagonist.

every day  american sniper

Every Day by David Levithan and American Sniper by Chris Kyle. I have a couple more books with male protagonists, but these were my favorites!

9. Find a book with gold lettering

a journey to the center of the earth

I actually thought I wouldn’t find this one! However, after a few minutes of digging, I came across A Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne. Although I was a bit bored by 50,000 Leagues Under the Sea, this book was very gripping, adventurous, and daring, all characteristics I enjoy in the novels I read.

10. Find a book with only words/letters on the cover.

the walled city

The Walled City by Ryan Graudin seems to fit these requirements. If you haven’t read this novel already, I suggest you go get it from your local bookstore ASAP, because it’s a must-read!

11. Find a book with illustrations in it.

diary of a wimpy kid

The Diary of A Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney has so many amazing illustrations! Usually I don’t like it when a book has pictures, but in this novel the drawings only make it funnier and more realistic!

12. Find a diary (true or fictional).

catherine called birdy

Catherine, Called Birdy was written as a fictional diary. I actually really enjoyed this novel as a light-read, and I loved reading it right before bedtime. It was very soothing but entertaining!

13. Find a book written by someone with a common name (for e.g. Smith)

twinmaker

Twinmaker by Sean Williams, since Sean Williams seems to be a common name. This novel seemed like it would be good at first but got progressively worse as it went on. I honestly don’t recommend it.

14. Find a book that has a close-up of something on its cover

pretties

My version of Pretties by Scott Westerfield has a close-up of a guy and girl’s faces on the cover. I actually like the other version of the cover to this one, since this one is kind of off-putting.

15. Find a non-YA book

the hunt for the red october

The Hunt for the Red October by Tom Clancy is an adult action novel. I got it after watching the movie, and it’s been really interesting so far! I haven’t finished it, but I feel like it’s the perfect book for those who love action and don’t enjoy romance very much. If you enjoy the Bourne Identity Series, the Sum of All Fears, the Jack Ryan Series, or the Patriot Games movies, then I suggest that you check out their book counterparts, which are equally gripping!

Well, I guess that wraps up our book tag today! I also need to tag a few of you lovely people to do this wonderful challenge. I tag:

  • If We Shadows Have Offended
  • Swxftbooks
  • Umbreen
  • Commas and Ampersands
  • Sripurna
  • HusbandAndHusband
  • thetimetravelingwriter
  • The Happy Typewriter
  • aditiyunal
  • Romance for the Beach
  • Angelized 1st

I have two more tags to post, along with a review for the Reed Queen by Victoria Aveyard. Until then, au revoir!

The Disney Book Tag

Hi everyone! I was looking for inspiration for my post when I found this lovely tag on YouTube. I thought it sounded fun and interesting, so why not give it a go? So, without further ado, let’s begin!

1.) Part of Your World: What book world would you change yourself for so you could be a part of?

part of your world

HOGWARTS!!! I have always wanted to be a witch, not just so I can perform magic but also because I would get to go the the wonderful Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. That has been my dream school since I was a little girl, and I would do ANYTHING to go there!

2.) Let It Go- What book did you not want to finish because you loved it so much?

let it go

I actually cried when I finished the Young Elites, the latest novel by Marie Lu. I loved the entire story so much, because everything was so original. I am eagerly awaiting the next novel in the series, because the cliffhanger in the ending almost killed me.

3.) Beauty and the Beast- What book do you think is/will be timeless?

beauty and the beast 2

I think that the entirety of the Harry Potter series will be timeless and live on forever. As a child, when you don’t quite understand things, instead of turning to science, you tend to turn to the supernatural. I was an avid believer of magic when I was a kid, so I especially enjoyed this series. It indulged me and taught me that I can be whatever I want to be and to dream big, which I believe are concepts that will always be relevant.

4.) So This is Love- What book were you hesitant to read at first but ended up loving?

so this is loove

I had mixed feelings when I first bought Anna and the French Kiss because, you know, the name was unsettling. I thought it would be one of those mindless romantic novels that teenage girls read, and I didn’t want to waste my time on it. However, when I actually picked up the book and started reading, I wasn’t able to put it down until I was done! The novel, although cliche, was sweet and romantic, and I loved every word of it.

5.) Friend Like Me- Which character would you like to be your best friend?

friend like mee

I really want Grover from the Percy Jackson series to be my best friend. He’s caring, compassionate, encouraging, and always manages to crack me up. What more could you want from a BFF?

6.) Reflection- What book really made you think/changed the way you viewed things?

reflection

The Diary of a Young Girl really made me sit down and think. After reading the heart-wrenching diary of Anne Frank, I started to feel happier and more fortunate. I learned that my life was great and not the hell I sometimes made it out to be. I stopped loathing and started enjoying every moment I had, and that has changed my outlook on life quite a bit.

7.) Colors of the Wind- Who do you tag?

Love in Ten Fragments

book love

I was nominated for the Spread the Love/Love in Ten Sentences Challenge by Prose and Me, which is a truly lovely blog. Check it out, because I thoroughly enjoy all of her work!

Well, as with most challenges, this one comes with a set of rules. The rules are:

1.) Write about love in ten lines of four words each.

2.) Share your favorite quote.

3.) Nominate other bloggers.

As you can tell, the rules are very simple. I must first write a poem of sorts on love. This is the first time I am posting writing of mine on my blog, so I hope you enjoy it!

You are my home

Eyes of peaceful reverie

Smile a secret sancturary

Lighting my heart afire

With simple beautiful words

“I am forever yours.

You are forever mine”

Feeling the intangible strings

Tying our hearts together

With an everlasting knot

Well, I must next pick a quote that I particularly enjoy. This is my favorite quote on love, because it struck a chord deep inside me the very first time I read it. It’s beautiful and candid at the same time, and the truth behind the words made me unable to stop thinking about days after I saw it:

“You don’t love someone because they’re perfect, you love them in spite of the fact that they’re not.” ― Jodi Picoult, My Sister’s Keeper

Finally, I must nominate fellow bloggers, which I will gladly do. Drumroll, please….

  1. If We Shadows Have Offended
  2. To All the Boys in the Fictional World
  3. The Happy Typewriter
  4. I Was Angelized_1st

Well, I guess that wraps it up! I had a lot of fun writing this, since I got to let my creative side peek out a bit. I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. Thank you!

The Dreaded Book Tag

readbook

I am participating in this new tag I made, and I have tagged a few other blogs to do this. Read on to see if you have been one of the lovely bloggers who were tagged!

This tag is called “The Dreaded Book Tag”, and I have been thinking about creating it for a long time. In order to participate in this tag, you must read at least three books that you have decided never to read, no matter for what reason. This is meant to open your eyes and to remind yourself to not judge a book by its cover and see things yourself before formulating an opinion. Here are the novels I have decided to read:

  1. Twilight (ugh!)
  2. Linger (sequel to Shiver)
  3. Vampire Academy
  4. Evermore

I have sworn off these books, but who knows? Maybe I’ll end up really liking vampires… Anyways, I hope you get the idea. You can participate in this even if you weren’t tagged by me. Just please comment below with your blog name so I can include you on the tag. Once you are done with one of your books, please provide a link to a review or a post in the comments below so I can check it out! So, without further ado, here are the lovely bloggers who I have tagged:

  1. Commas and Ampersands
  2. Swxftbooks
  3. Book Enthral
  4. I Was Angelized_1st
  5. If We Shadows Have Offended
  6. Just something about lynlyn
  7. Romance Novels for the Beach

  10. Passionate Book Lover
  11. Book Olympus

Let us join together to fight prejudice against books and break down barriers! I hope this will open your eyes to books that you may actually take a liking to. Thank you!

The Ultimate Book Tag

Welcome to my first book tag. This lovely tag was created by the Chapter Chicks, which is a wonderful YouTube channel that you should definitely check out. If any of you amazing readers want to do this tag, please provide a link in the comments below so I can check it out. Well, here I go!

1.) Do you get sick while reading in the car?

I usually don’t read in the car, because I read somewhere that reading in a moving vehicle can cause your eyesight to worsen. Since my eyesight is already pretty bad, I don’t want to take any risks. However, I do sometimes sneak a book in while going somewhere, because there are some novels that you just can’t put down. During those rare occurrences, I have never gotten sick.

2.) Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?

i must be the greatest

Although this is pretty cliche, I’m going to have to go with John Green. Usually, when I read books, I go off into a fairy wonderland, but something about his writing anchors me to reality. It’s as if I can hear his voice speaking clearly to me in my head, which allows me to enjoy the little parts of his novels that most just skip over.

3.) Harry Potter Series or Twilight Saga? Give three points to defend your answer.

Is this even a question?! HARRY POTTER, hands down!!! I feel like that’s automatically justified, but, since they asked for reasons, I’m going to give them to you.

  1. Harry Potter wasn’t just about the romance. J.K. Rowling created a whole complex, almost-realistic world, filled with everything, from its own sports to its own sweets, when all she did was create a love story.
  2. Harry Potter was created soley from the mind of J.K. Rowling, but there is a lot of evidence to prove that Stephanie Meyers got the idea for her novel from Maggie Stiefvater’s Whisper novel. Those who have read some of my blog posts know how I feel about cliche and unoriginal novels.
  3. I CANNOT STAND BELLA. She is the reason why men think that women are helpless dependent creatures. Can she even stand on her own two feet without Edward or Jacob?! I will start liking her once she learns how to be an independent woman.

harrypotter

4.) Do you carry a book bag? If so, what’s in it (besides books…)?

I do carry a book bag. In it, I have a phone charger, a couple of bookmarks, a pencil, a pen, and a magazine.

5.) Do you smell your books?

This may seem kind of weird, but yes. I love the smell of ancient books, and sometimes when I’m reading them, I pause to take a deep breath and smell the dust and the years ingrained inside every page. I also love the smell of newly-released books, because they have this intoxicating clean paper smell. I’m going to stop talking now so that I sound less weird than I actually am.

smellingbooks

6.) Books with or without little illustrations?

I am a big believer of leaving things to the imagination. When there are illustrations inside of a book, they overpower the images of the world that I created inside my head, and I don’t like that. One of the biggest reasons why I love books is the fact that a book is different for each person, and illustrations ruin that diversity.

7.) What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?

When I was reading the book Delirium, I loved every single part of it. However, after I was done and had gotten over my book hangover, I realized that there wasn’t really a strong plot and the romance was just… weird. I know this may not be popular opinion, but I honestly thought that the writing was less than decent after thinking about it.

8.) Do you have funny stories involving books from your childhood?

I used to love the Very Hungry Caterpillar. However, when I first read it as a child, I thought that the red Sun was a giant apple. So, one day, while I was reading the book for my preschool teacher, I said “I just want to eat that!” while pointing to the Sun. I swear the teacher thought I was mentally insane.

9.) What is the thinnest book on your shelf?

The books on my shelf aren’t very thin, but the thinnest book I own is Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. I don’t understand how they manage to pack such an exhilarating story in such a small amount of pages, but that won’t stop me from always loving it.

10.) What is the thickest book on your shelf?

The Endgame. What a waste of space.

11.) Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

I love writing short stories and poems. I have submitted several free verse poems to TeenInk under the pen name of TeenageWoes. If you’d like to check some of my poems out, click here. I can see myself being an author in the future, but I feel like I need to develop patience and a larger imagination first. However, I would love to get published, since it is a very big goal of mine.

12.) When did you get into reading?

Ever since I was a toddler, I loved reading. In kindergarten, I got a medal for being the most avid reader in my grade, and I guess that that motivate me a bit.

13.) What is your favorite classic book?

I love the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The novel is an easy-read for me, and it brings me back to a time in my life where everything wasn’t as complicated. Whenever I feel like I need to escape, it’s my go-to book.

14.) In school was your best subject Language Arts/English?

Well, I still am in school. My best subjects have always been science, math, and Spanish. However, I do love English and put the most amount of effort into that class.

15.) If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated… what would you do?

I would probably smile politely and accept, then rant about how much I hated it to a close friend. However, I think I would end up keeping it to add to my eclectic book collection.

16.) What lesser known series that you know of is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?

The Legend series is similar to the Hunger Games, but I personally enjoyed it a lot more. You must read the series if you haven’t already. I promise you that you won’t be able to put it down!

17.) What is a bad habit you always do while blogging?

While blogging, I always munch on some Girl Scout cookies. I will have probably gained five pounds by the end of this post, but I am not going to stop myself from enjoying the simple pleasures of life.

18.) What is your favorite word?

My favorite word is “zesty”. Every time someone says that, I have to fight the urge to burst out laughing.

19.) Are you a nerd, dork, dweeb, or just a combination of all of them?

I’m pretty sure that I’m a nerd and a dork. And I am proud of it. If any of you lovely readers identify as being a nerd, dork, or dweeb, be proud of yourselves, because all these label words are just synonymous with “awesome”!

20.) Vampires or fairies? Why?

FAIRIES.

duh

Vampires, although they are portrayed as some kind of cool creature, sound really useless. I mean, all they really do is suck blood and stay out of the sun. That sounds pretty lame to me.

21.) Shapeshifters or angels? Why?

I have to say shapeshifters. Although angels are cool and all, I have always been fascinated with the idea of shapeshifting (ever since I started reading Harry Potter, actually). I can not begin to count the number of times I have tried to turn into a cat, and it’s actually quite embarrasing.

22.) Spirits or werewolves? Why?

I am going to go with spirits. Werewolves don’t really feel very spooky to me, but just the thought of spirits gives me goosebumps.

23.) Zombies or vampires?

Even though I just completely bashed vampires in one of the previous questions, I would definitely choose them over zombies. Mainly because zombies are nearly scientifically impossible, and the fact they the could be able to move is ABSURD.

24.) Love triangle or forbidden love?

Honestly, I hate both of them. Love triangles are so cliche and make me furious. WHY CAN’T YOU JUST PICK ONE? Why do you have to ruin TWO people’s lives? Forbidden love also gets me upset, because love should never be forbidden, and the fact that they are romanticizing rebellion infuriates me. Rebellion should not be taken lightly, and the overabundance of it in American media is stupid and irrelevant. I can understand the abundance of rebellion in other countries, because some countries desperately need it. Although America is going through some controversial times, rebellion is not the answer and is completely unnecessary. So, to conclude this rant, the only kind of love I like is the realistic kind.

25.) Lastly: Full-on romance novels or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

My favorite kind of novels are action-packed with just a sprinkle of romance, because I feel like these kind of novels allow the characters to develop and grow on me more. I like to enjoy the experience of being next to the character through everything that happens to them, and full-on romance novels make me feel like an awkward third wheel.
