Welcome to my first book tag. This lovely tag was created by the Chapter Chicks, which is a wonderful YouTube channel that you should definitely check out. If any of you amazing readers want to do this tag, please provide a link in the comments below so I can check it out. Well, here I go!
1.) Do you get sick while reading in the car?
I usually don’t read in the car, because I read somewhere that reading in a moving vehicle can cause your eyesight to worsen. Since my eyesight is already pretty bad, I don’t want to take any risks. However, I do sometimes sneak a book in while going somewhere, because there are some novels that you just can’t put down. During those rare occurrences, I have never gotten sick.
2.) Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?
Although this is pretty cliche, I’m going to have to go with John Green. Usually, when I read books, I go off into a fairy wonderland, but something about his writing anchors me to reality. It’s as if I can hear his voice speaking clearly to me in my head, which allows me to enjoy the little parts of his novels that most just skip over.
3.) Harry Potter Series or Twilight Saga? Give three points to defend your answer.
Is this even a question?! HARRY POTTER, hands down!!! I feel like that’s automatically justified, but, since they asked for reasons, I’m going to give them to you.
- Harry Potter wasn’t just about the romance. J.K. Rowling created a whole complex, almost-realistic world, filled with everything, from its own sports to its own sweets, when all she did was create a love story.
- Harry Potter was created soley from the mind of J.K. Rowling, but there is a lot of evidence to prove that Stephanie Meyers got the idea for her novel from Maggie Stiefvater’s Whisper novel. Those who have read some of my blog posts know how I feel about cliche and unoriginal novels.
- I CANNOT STAND BELLA. She is the reason why men think that women are helpless dependent creatures. Can she even stand on her own two feet without Edward or Jacob?! I will start liking her once she learns how to be an independent woman.
4.) Do you carry a book bag? If so, what’s in it (besides books…)?
I do carry a book bag. In it, I have a phone charger, a couple of bookmarks, a pencil, a pen, and a magazine.
5.) Do you smell your books?
This may seem kind of weird, but yes. I love the smell of ancient books, and sometimes when I’m reading them, I pause to take a deep breath and smell the dust and the years ingrained inside every page. I also love the smell of newly-released books, because they have this intoxicating clean paper smell. I’m going to stop talking now so that I sound less weird than I actually am.
6.) Books with or without little illustrations?
I am a big believer of leaving things to the imagination. When there are illustrations inside of a book, they overpower the images of the world that I created inside my head, and I don’t like that. One of the biggest reasons why I love books is the fact that a book is different for each person, and illustrations ruin that diversity.
7.) What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?
When I was reading the book Delirium, I loved every single part of it. However, after I was done and had gotten over my book hangover, I realized that there wasn’t really a strong plot and the romance was just… weird. I know this may not be popular opinion, but I honestly thought that the writing was less than decent after thinking about it.
8.) Do you have funny stories involving books from your childhood?
I used to love the Very Hungry Caterpillar. However, when I first read it as a child, I thought that the red Sun was a giant apple. So, one day, while I was reading the book for my preschool teacher, I said “I just want to eat that!” while pointing to the Sun. I swear the teacher thought I was mentally insane.
9.) What is the thinnest book on your shelf?
The books on my shelf aren’t very thin, but the thinnest book I own is Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin. I don’t understand how they manage to pack such an exhilarating story in such a small amount of pages, but that won’t stop me from always loving it.
10.) What is the thickest book on your shelf?
The Endgame. What a waste of space.
11.) Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?
I love writing short stories and poems. I have submitted several free verse poems to TeenInk under the pen name of TeenageWoes. If you’d like to check some of my poems out, click here. I can see myself being an author in the future, but I feel like I need to develop patience and a larger imagination first. However, I would love to get published, since it is a very big goal of mine.
12.) When did you get into reading?
Ever since I was a toddler, I loved reading. In kindergarten, I got a medal for being the most avid reader in my grade, and I guess that that motivate me a bit.
13.) What is your favorite classic book?
I love the Adventures of Tom Sawyer. The novel is an easy-read for me, and it brings me back to a time in my life where everything wasn’t as complicated. Whenever I feel like I need to escape, it’s my go-to book.
14.) In school was your best subject Language Arts/English?
Well, I still am in school. My best subjects have always been science, math, and Spanish. However, I do love English and put the most amount of effort into that class.
15.) If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated… what would you do?
I would probably smile politely and accept, then rant about how much I hated it to a close friend. However, I think I would end up keeping it to add to my eclectic book collection.
16.) What lesser known series that you know of is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?
The Legend series is similar to the Hunger Games, but I personally enjoyed it a lot more. You must read the series if you haven’t already. I promise you that you won’t be able to put it down!
17.) What is a bad habit you always do while blogging?
While blogging, I always munch on some Girl Scout cookies. I will have probably gained five pounds by the end of this post, but I am not going to stop myself from enjoying the simple pleasures of life.
18.) What is your favorite word?
My favorite word is “zesty”. Every time someone says that, I have to fight the urge to burst out laughing.
19.) Are you a nerd, dork, dweeb, or just a combination of all of them?
I’m pretty sure that I’m a nerd and a dork. And I am proud of it. If any of you lovely readers identify as being a nerd, dork, or dweeb, be proud of yourselves, because all these label words are just synonymous with “awesome”!
20.) Vampires or fairies? Why?
FAIRIES.
Vampires, although they are portrayed as some kind of cool creature, sound really useless. I mean, all they really do is suck blood and stay out of the sun. That sounds pretty lame to me.
21.) Shapeshifters or angels? Why?
I have to say shapeshifters. Although angels are cool and all, I have always been fascinated with the idea of shapeshifting (ever since I started reading Harry Potter, actually). I can not begin to count the number of times I have tried to turn into a cat, and it’s actually quite embarrasing.
22.) Spirits or werewolves? Why?
I am going to go with spirits. Werewolves don’t really feel very spooky to me, but just the thought of spirits gives me goosebumps.
23.) Zombies or vampires?
Even though I just completely bashed vampires in one of the previous questions, I would definitely choose them over zombies. Mainly because zombies are nearly scientifically impossible, and the fact they the could be able to move is ABSURD.
24.) Love triangle or forbidden love?
Honestly, I hate both of them. Love triangles are so cliche and make me furious. WHY CAN’T YOU JUST PICK ONE? Why do you have to ruin TWO people’s lives? Forbidden love also gets me upset, because love should never be forbidden, and the fact that they are romanticizing rebellion infuriates me. Rebellion should not be taken lightly, and the overabundance of it in American media is stupid and irrelevant. I can understand the abundance of rebellion in other countries, because some countries desperately need it. Although America is going through some controversial times, rebellion is not the answer and is completely unnecessary. So, to conclude this rant, the only kind of love I like is the realistic kind.
25.) Lastly: Full-on romance novels or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?
My favorite kind of novels are action-packed with just a sprinkle of romance, because I feel like these kind of novels allow the characters to develop and grow on me more. I like to enjoy the experience of being next to the character through everything that happens to them, and full-on romance novels make me feel like an awkward third wheel.
