Five Books I Don’t Know Why I Read

(Please don’t get offended by this! Everyone has different tastes, and I’m just expressing mine. If you actually love any of these novels, I’m sorry in advance!)

1.) The Twilight Saga

I know I might get some hate from this, but I really don’t understand why I read this series. I read the novel Twilight to open my eyes and not be so prejudice against books. However, I don’t know what compelled me to pick up the rest of the series. Each book is basically 600 pages of meaningless plot and idiotic characters. Fortunately, I realized what a complete waste of time these books are and didn’t finish Breaking Dawn, the last novel of the saga.

2.) The Gallagher Girl Series

If any of you have read this series, you know what I’m talking about. In my English class, I had nothing to do, so I strolled to the teacher’s bookshelf. In it were wonderful classics, from Hemingway to Jane Austen. But, those didn’t catch my eye. What stood out to me was the lovely plaid spine a novel. I picked it up and read the title. “I’d Tell You I Love You, But Then I’d Have To Kill You”. Wow, that sounds amazing! I would love to read this novel over books like To Kill a Mockingbird and 1984! Sometimes, the literary decisions I made in the past come back to haunt me. This series was filled with completely meaningless fluff until the last book or two. But, I, completely oblivious to the lack of substance, devoured book after book. Why am I so stupid sometimes?

3.) 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea

I know this looks bad, but let me explain. I am very happy that I read such a famous classic, actually. The only problem with this was the fact that I read it at the ripe age of 11. Little 6th grade me didn’t understand this novel very well. Little 6th grade me would rather read an action or romance novel, but she persevered and read the entire unabridged version. And the only thing that little 6th grade me got from the story is that she has a strong dislike towards submarines. I think a reread is definitely needed, and to this day I still don’t know what prompted me to pick up that ginormous book.

4.) Delirium

The amount of times I have ranted about my hate for this novel almost appalls me. Almost, but not quite, because I know that it deserves it. In an age of fierce female leads, this main character is as strong as a flimsy piece of paper. She constantly relies on her love to save her in every situation, which frankly gets annoying after some time. Also, she is one of the most immature main characters I know, in the sense that she can’t handle her issues and the problems that she puts herself in. This novel and the hype that it gets infuriates me, and I believe that it’s not worth the read.

5.) Shiver

This novel is so unrealistic it’s hilarious. The parents are completely non-existent in the plot and don’t realize that their daughter has been sleeping next to a boy for several months now until it’s way too late. The fact that he’s a werewolf is basically a background, secondary fact until the end of the novel. Overall, I don’t think I’ll be continuing this series, because I think it’s a bad sign when I can’t stop laughing at a book that’s not meant to be funny.
